How I Met Elise

Created by Heather 8 years ago
Elise came into my world when she was three. Her parents, Laurel and Peter had just purchased Paladin, their first Pendragon Poodle in the spring of 2001 when we were living on the Sunshine Coast. Shortly after, Elise and Paladin were photographed for the Victoria newspaper and that cute clipping made its way to many a refrigerator door where it held a place of honour. It remained on my fridge for many many years. I always said I should have paid that kid a commission as I can't begin to tell you how many puppies she helped me sell because of it. When we got the word that Elise was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, we were living in Tweed, Ontario. We of course, along with everyone else who knew the Schoenrank’s, were devastated. I flew often back and forth from Toronto to Vancouver and saw Elise on occasion at Sick Kids and remained in contact with Peter and Laurel. I was in awe and will remain forever grateful to Peter for his diligence in maintaining email contact with all of us at that time. Thank you Peter for being so brave and so willing to share. I'm not sure I ever communicated that, but it meant the world to be kept in the loop and to know how you guys were when we were so far away and it was so incredibly difficult to feel so helpless. Your emails were such a comfort. I'll always remember Elise for her smile, for her courage, for her bravery. No matter her circumstance, she was always happy. She loved Edgrrr, my little Pomeranian and I'd like to think that just MAYbe he had some part to play in her wanting a small dog and the acquiring of Rosie, the little Havanese puppy she so cherished and who brought her so much joy. The photo of the two of us with our little dogs was taken during my visit to their home end of August 2015 and it is the last time I saw Elise. She was, of course, her impish cheerful friendly self and I was so incredibly glad I made the trip over to Victoria when I did. I was excited to have her show me her newly remodelled bedroom that was bedazzled in purple and silver and completely made over for her by the Help Fill A Dream Foundation. I was entranced to hear all about her most recent trip this spring which was a surprise last minute "let's just do it" spur of the moment decision by her daddy back to the Grand Cayman Islands. (Which was a deja vu repeat of the Children's Make a Wish Foundation trip she and her family had taken in 2011.) I was also entertained to no end to watch her try and eat one of the MONSTER submarine sandwiches I had brought everyone from La Charcuterie in Port Kells where each sub weighs more than 4 lbs! We had so much fun! I know I have more to post…but this is a start and it warms my heart to have this website up and available for us all to meet and to share. Blessings to you and yours and to all of us who have been brought together here because of our love for Elise and the Schoenrank family.

My heart to yours…
Heather & Edgrrr
